PIMS Course Instructor Template Specifications
CRSE_INSTRUCTThe Course Instructor Template depends on the Course Template and Staff Template being loaded first.
Template Description
The Course Instructor Template identifies the instructor(s) for each section of every course reported in the Course Template. Submit this template cumulatively so the primary instructor associated with each section and course is reported for the entire school year.
Include the following instructor records:
- All active teachers assigned to a course section.
- Teachers on long-term leave who retain an assignment for a course section.
- Retired teachers who taught a portion of the course prior to retirement.
- Long-term substitutes when they are the teacher of record, or when they are employed as a professional or temporary professional employee.
Do not include:
- Teachers who were terminated during the school year unless the course ended with their departure.
Notes:
- Follow the Course Template and Staff Template conventions when matching course and staff records.
- This template is intended to capture the primary instructor for each section over the school year; use the Supplementary Course Differentiator and Section Code fields to distinguish multiple sections when necessary.
Template Specifications
1 - SUBMITTING AUN
The unique, 9-digit AUN assigned by the PDE.

2 - SCHOOL NUMBER
The PDE-defined 4-digit code identifying the school.

3 - SCHOOL YEAR DATE
A single date (June 30), the last day of the current school year indicating the whole school year.

8 - PRIMARY INSTRUCTOR ID
A unique identifier for all instructors, regardless of whether they hold a PA certificate; the 7-digit Professional Personnel ID (PPID). Professional personnel can obtain a PPID from the TIMS system. Helpful information is found at the PDE website > Educators > Certification.

17 - SUPPLEMENTARY COURSE DIFFERENTIATOR
This field is used to help make a course unique where the same COURSE CODE is offered in more than one-time period during the school year. This field will represent the general span of time in which a course and its sections are offered.
Business Rules
This field should match the Supplementary Course Differentiator (Semester) column in the Course Template for the relevant course code record.

19 - COURSE CODE LONG
The unique, local, LEA-specific COURSE CODE.
Business Rules
Courses may have multiple sections. Each course should have a single COURSE CODE LONG. Do not assign separate course codes to sections of the same course.

20 - PRIMARY INSTRUCTION LANGUAGE CODE
The primary language in which a course is taught.
Note
This field should be left blank for courses taught in US English.
